Product description The Soviet Union, the largest country on the globe, boasting a west-east expansion of 11.000 km, offers a virtually inexhaustible wealth of timber and other raw materials. With 56% of the 220 million hectares of forest being made up of larch, the Siberian larch is the most wide-spread coniferous tree in Russia. Over 50% of the Siberian forests can be classified as old or very old. The harvesting of timber, if carried out according to environmentally and economically sound standards, is therefore essential to keep up a natural cycle of growth and to rejuvenate the forests. Strict laws ensure the long-term use of forests open to commercial use. |
